Layer and Huston had met in 1944 in Naples, and they liked it immediately. After the war, Capa made many publicity stills for films of John Huston, included Beat the Devil starring Humphrey Bogart, Gina Lollobrigida, Peter Lorre and Robert Morley. In March 1953, Capa spent three weeks in Ravello and Amalfi photographing the production of that film. The novelist Truman Capote Huston helped write the script during filming. Capote Layer and lost so much money playing poker Huston later wrote: 'His work in the movie came out very cheap, because they always recuperated all the wages we paid. "
